Mentoring: Keep the Momentum
Ian Lund and Zac Head asked the question "what's next" after students experience freshman orientation. After reviewing relevant scholarly literature on higher education and diversity education, Ian and Zac decided that peer-to-peer mentoring is the best system to insure that initial educational experiences carry with students throughout their time at the Capstone. Ian and Zac proposed a New College mentoring class that training mentors among juniors and seniors then paired mentors with new students based on major or college. They feel this is a win-win-win: training the valuable skill of mentoring; receiving support as a mentee; and our campus improving as a place for successful student learning and respect for all persons.
