On October 27th, 2013, Emma Mullinax and Kate Bonner along with the Community Service Center at the University of Alabama held a volunteer service project in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Stand at the Schoolhouse door. The purpose of this project was to educate students on how service and communication can break down barriers that exist in our society and hinder us from moving forward as a unified community. The hope was that this project, while fostering a sense of community, would initiate relationships that continue the fight from equal rights that began so many years before our time.
Emma Mullinax and Kate Bonner used this volunteer service project to create a communication centered research project that evaluated the level of impact communication through reflection has on volunteer participants.
